Royal Heights Resthome Facilities

Royal Heights central facilities are modern, well-appointed and welcoming. They comprise of an architecturally designed large open lounge, entertainment area, and dining room. Residents can enjoy the view over the city, harbor bridge or Waitakere Ranges from the elevated dining room, watch the activity on the road below or retreat to the tranquility of the protected courtyards and gardens that back onto Royal Heights Park. The Royal Heights Shopping Centre is located an easy 150m walk on the same side of the road. This has all the conveniences of a Supermarket, Kiwibank Post Shop, ATM's, Pharmacy and various cafés, restaurants, many other shops and a bus stop. Dental and Physiotherapy clinics are over the road. Also, the large Westgate Shopping Centre is 5 minutes’ drive by car or on the bus.

There are a number of quiet Sunrooms and small lounges opening to the beautiful gardens that blend into the adjacent park. The tranquil, easily accessible gardens, located at the hub of the rest home, provide outdoor seating areas and forever changing views from almost everywhere in the home. Another lounge has a pool table and separate large screen tv and stereo for social gatherings. There is also an onsite Beauty/Hairdresser salon, a doctors' visiting room, and gymnasium.

Residents enjoy the privacy and independence of their own room, surrounded by treasured family mementos. All rooms are single with a toilet ensuite. We provide all of the furnishings, bedding, etc. that you will need, however you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. Each room has an independently controllable heater, and a nurse call bell by the bed and in the ensuite. Although a public phone and a number of televisions are provided for residents, connections for a personal television (including sky) and private telephone line are provided in the rooms. A WiFi internet service is also an available option. There are a number of standard and premium room configurations and options; such as different sized rooms, those with different windows or slider door access to a personal cobbled, garden surrounded patio. There are even a set of rooms where arrangements may be made for the joining of the adjacent rooms to accommodate couples.

Visiting
Visiting is permitted at any time. Family and friends are welcome to join in for a cup of tea or coffee, they are also encouraged to participate in the regular activities or visiting entertainers.

Garden
The garden is maintained for the use and pleasure of residents, and various activities are held in the garden. The vegetable and herb garden also provide seasonal inspiration and are used in the kitchen.

Culture
We support a diverse and inclusive culture including a workforce reflective of the cohort of residents and our catchment area of West Auckland. We have residents and staff from various cultures including Māori and Pacifika. We recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as our founding document in NZ and the principles of Participation, Partnership and Protection incorporated into Te Tiriti are therefore also embedded within all aspects of our services. We operate under and are audited against the Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard (NZS 8134:2021).

Library
We have a library and the local public library is available to deliver Large print books. Mobile Library visits regularly.

Spiritual
Residents wishing to maintain religious practices may have their chaplains visit the Home. Church services and study are held at our home regularly.

Food
All meals are prepared by our staff on-site fresh daily. Our menu’s are varied and change with the seasons but you will find plenty of favourites to tempt your taste buds. We are able to cater for varied needs and have specialty days and functions. Menus are designed around the resident’s preferences and dietary needs, with a large amount of variation and nutritionists work closely with your medical support team to ensure you’re provided with meals that match your health requirements.

Pets
We are pet friendly and have a cat and a number of large goldfish in a large aquarium dividing the entrance and main lounge, as well as those in an outdoor raised pond. Visitors often bring their dogs for a friendly visit too.
